Importing Shopify products to Wix is not as straightforward as it sounds. Wix has its own CSV format that is completely different from Shopify's export format. If you upload a Shopify CSV directly into Wix, the import will either fail entirely or produce products with missing descriptions, broken variants, and no images.

This guide explains exactly how to import Shopify products to Wix correctly — including the conversion step that most guides skip.

Why You Cannot Upload a Shopify CSV Directly to Wix

Shopify and Wix use different column names and different row structures for the same data. Here are the key differences:

Shopify calls the product description "Body (HTML)". Wix calls it "description". If the column name does not match exactly, Wix ignores it and your products import with no descriptions.

Shopify puts each product variant on a separate row and links them using a "Handle" column. Wix uses a "fieldType" column with values of "Product" and "Variant" to separate parent products from their variants. The entire row structure is different.

Shopify includes image URLs in an "Image Src" column. Wix expects them in a "productImageUrl" column with multiple images separated by semicolons.

These differences mean you need to convert the Shopify CSV to Wix format before importing. WixSync does this automatically.

What You Need

Before starting the import you need three things ready:

Your Shopify product export CSV — export this from Shopify Admin under Products.
A Wix store with Wix Stores added and a paid plan that allows product imports.
A WixSync account to convert the CSV format — free to start.

Step-by-Step: How to Import Shopify Products to Wix

Step 1 — Export your products from Shopify

Log in to your Shopify admin. Click Products in the left sidebar. Click the Export button in the top right. Choose All products and select CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet applications. Click Export products. Shopify will either download the file immediately or email it to you depending on the size of your catalog.

Step 2 — Convert the CSV to Wix format

Go to wixsync.com/converter/convert/ and log in. Click the upload area and select your Shopify export file. WixSync reads the file, detects which products have variants and which do not, and converts everything to Wix format automatically.

The conversion takes about 30-60 seconds for most stores.

Step 3 — Download the converted files

After conversion WixSync gives you a ZIP file containing two folders:

catalog_v1 — compatible with Wix Classic Stores
catalog_v3 — compatible with Wix New Stores

Most stores created in the last two years use the new Wix Stores format. Use the V3 files. If you get an error during import, switch to V1.

Step 4 — Import into Wix Stores

Open your Wix dashboard. Go to Store Products. Click the More Actions button. Select Import Products. Click Choose File and select the CSV from the catalog_v3 folder. Wix will validate the file and show you a preview of how many products will be imported.

Review the preview carefully. If the numbers look correct — matching your Shopify product count — click Import. Wix will process the file and notify you when complete.

Step 5 — Check your products

After import, browse through your Wix product catalog and spot check several items:

Check that titles transferred correctly.
Check that descriptions are showing — not blank.
Check that variants like sizes and colors are grouped under the correct products.
Check that prices are correct including variant price differences.
Check that product images are displaying.

Fix any issues before going live.

How to Handle Common Import Errors

Error: "Invalid file format"

This usually means you uploaded the original Shopify file instead of the converted WixSync file. Make sure you are uploading from the catalog_v3 folder inside the ZIP, not the original Shopify export.

Error: Products import but variants show as separate products

This happens when the Handle column in the original Shopify export was inconsistent. Products that share the same Handle should group as one product with variants. If this grouping is broken in the original file, WixSync cannot fix it. Check your original Shopify export and make sure all variants of the same product share the same Handle value.

Error: Products import with no images

Wix imports images by URL. The images remain hosted on Shopify's servers. They display correctly in Wix as long as your Shopify store stays active. When you cancel Shopify the images will disappear. To prevent this, download all product images before cancelling Shopify and re-upload them to Wix.

Error: Some products are missing after import

Wix has a limit of 50,000 products per store. For very large catalogs you may need to split the import into multiple batches. WixSync splits variant and non-variant products into separate files which you can import one at a time.

What Gets Imported and What Does Not

What transfers with WixSync:
Product names and titles
Product descriptions including HTML formatting
Prices for all variants
SKU codes
Product weights
Variant options like size and color
Product image URLs
Collection or category assignment
Inventory status

What does not transfer automatically:
Product reviews
Customer data
Order history
SEO URL redirects from your old Shopify URLs
Metafields and custom product data

Tips for a Successful Import

Run a test import first. WixSync includes 3 free conversions. Use one to convert a small sample of your products — maybe 10-20 items — and import that to Wix first. Check the results carefully before converting your full catalog.

Keep Shopify active during migration. Do not cancel your Shopify subscription until your Wix store is fully tested and live. You need Shopify active to keep your product images working.

Set up redirects after migration. If your Shopify store had established SEO rankings, set up 301 redirects from your old Shopify product URLs to your new Wix product URLs to preserve as much search traffic as possible.
